Which advertising theme do you like best?

Cobra beer sometimes advertises in Metro.  This time they want to align themselves further with the curry-eating occasion but they’re finding it hard to choose between two different themes for the next Metro campaign.  We told them how clever you lot are and they wondered if they could pick your brains!

Below are the two different themes.  Please tell us what you think of each of them, as we’re really interested in your thoughts.

If you have just voted on this question on the Urban Pulse area of the site then please let us know why you chose your answer.

If you have a better idea than either of these two then feel free to disclose that too!

Theme 1
The advertising would focus on a topical event happening that week - anything from Halloween to a new film release.  The topical event would be pitched as the perfect excuse to have a curry that week, whether cooked at home, bought from a take-away or at a local curry house.

For example:
It’s Vegetarian Week – India has the highest proportion of non-meat eaters in the world so they know a thing or two about veggie curry. Try out some veggie curries for yourself by visiting one of the UK’s best Indian Vegetarian Restaurants.

Theme 2
The advertising would focus on a different curry each week. Each ad would be brought to you by a real curry fan who would explain why that particular curry is his/her absolute favourite. The column would be designed to whet readers’ appetites and the aim would be to get them in the mood to try a curry that night/week.

Like idea 2 best. I’m a curry addict and would be interested in hearing what others prefer.

theme 1 is a lot more favourable.

reasons being;
-find it more ‘inclusive’ than theme 2.

-like the idea of a topical theme, as i think this would maintain my interest far longer than would someone speaking of their favourite curry.

-in this way, i’d probably learn something i didn’t know previously; who knows when its curry week etc? not me…

-you could include some really random things in theme 1-as in make me laugh; invent some topics of your own…a surefire way to get more people, more interested and make your aims / objectives more memorable, i would think….

-i’d stick around / i’d come back etc etc

How about tying in the curry-a-week theme with the recipe for the authentic curry. Real Indian curry is so rewarding to cook and so much better than most of the dismal take-away food people are used to – and cooking a curry from scratch is so much better for you!

I don’t think companies should get this kind of marketing feedback for free…..........

I like Theme 1 - it would also draw attention to something that is going on each week

I like theme 2 best, as it is a better way of finding out about different Curries. I prefer…............well you’ll have to wait & see if I get to express my preference in one of the ads!!

Theme 1 has an appealing message packaged up in user-friendly text. Theme 2 is just an idea - nothing to say how it would be portrayed. Therefore theme 1 is much better.

I like theme 1 best as well, tying the ‘curry of the week’ with an event/theme/ which is topical.  As someone who loves curries, cooks them from scratch, I’d also prefer it to be accompanied by an appropriate recipe.

I like option 2 best, as it gives me the chance to try out different curries at home. And I like hearing about other people and what associations/memories food has for them.
However I think they should do a combo - have a weekly curry, and then have a certain amount of themed curries throughout the year.

Option 1. There is always something topical that would be an excuse to enjoy a curry!

i dont like either idea but option 2 goes some way to being more viable - my thinking goes like this - its coming upto pancake Tuesday - do you think of pancakes or do you think i could murder a curry….. most events in the calendar for both relgious and non religious celebrations have something normally associated with them and fond childhood memories - people seek these out not go looking to reinvent the wheel.

Option 2
Rather than have some random Joe come on the telly telling me they like this curry because…......... who cares i dont know you from adam….... how about telling us trade secrets for how they get their distinctive taste and the subtle used or spices and combinations with the other ingredients…... as in the the next time you try a Tikka Massala you may want to try and add xxxx ingredient and you will find that this will highlight yyyyyy

Just a thought

I definitely prefer option 2 as it makes it more personal and I for one like reading about other people’s opinions. I normally only eat a mild curry dish so this would give me a chance to understand other curry dishes and maybe dare to try something different myself.
