Sainsbury’s is associated with Jamie Oliver and Waitrose is associated with Heston Blumenthal and Delia Smith. If Asda was to bring on board a celebrity to endorse their ‘everyday low prices’, who do you think would be the best choice?

Asda don’t need to team up with a celebrity, and I would be concerned that doing so would mean that the ‘everyday low prices’ would increase to pay the celebrity price tag!
Of more interest to me are the ‘shopping basket’ comparisons, and the guarantee that if you can buy your shopping cheaper anywhere else, they’ll refund the difference.
I’ve tried, and I can’t!

I would be happier if my local Asda actually had produce on their shelves rather than paying the money to some jumped up nobody. Celebrities have had it too good for too long - get rid of the lot of them. I think they tried out Sharon Osbourne a little while ago though (I might be mistaken, so apologies if I am incorrect here), and she turned me right off of going to Asda. Likewise Kerry Katona and Iceland. Actually, the same goes for Jamie and Sainsbury’s. Celebrity endorsement turns me off a product or brand as I see my hard earned going to pay their inflated salaries rather than lowering costs and improving services for us consumers.

Don’t think they need to. Celebrity endorsments hold little appeal to me anyway.
And if they go down the route of using someone like that poisonous witch Sharon Osbourne then they’re seriously wrong

I think being the Supermarket that doesn’t waste its (our) money on celebrities is a positive selling point for Asda. I really can’t stand Jamie Oliver but I go to Sainsbury’s anyway because the food is good. But Asda have always used ordinary looking actors in their adverts, and usually focus on the food and prices rather than creating an image, and they are on the right track with this.
I’d enjoy a knocking campaign saying come to Asda and we guarantee you will not bump into Jamie Oliver.

I agree with your first point - Asda’s ‘thing’ is about having lower prices than the other big supermarkets - but I think that shopping basket guarantee is not hot at all - it doesn’t cover everything, you have to have a minimum of qualifying products in one transaction to qualify and at best you just get your stuff the same price rather than cheaper - and there’s the hassle of having to put receipts through.

In case it has slipped peoples minds ASDA have previously had Celebrities fronting their Ad campaigns. Julie Walters was just one, Sharon Osbourne was another, Ian Wright(former Arsenal footballer), he fronted the Fresh Fish campaign!! Check advert archives to see who else has fronted their campaigns. So yes ASDA should bring in another Celebrity, either that or ALL supermarkets get BANNED from using Celebs & use regular people to front their campaigns.

Asda should take me as a celebrity, it wouldn’t cost a penny extra on price tag because I am not a celebrity, but I would promote very well the brand…the problem is…don’t know if they will bear with my French accent…

No, its a waste or money… It would make me shop somewhere because some celeb endrosed. If fact, if I didn’t like the celeb I wouldn’t go near the store because I wanted want to see advertising with that celeb plastered all over it. ASDA, should look at using real families who shop there regularly to endorse it, as these people are loyal to the store and not driven by a pay pack.

I dont think Asda need to bring in celebs. I get a weekly shop from Asda online and have always been happy with the service and prices from them. Why pay out loads of money for a celeb to advertise for you when they probably never use Asda anyway?!

I dont think that Asda should endorse any celebs. If they want to continue re-iterating their everyday low prices then they should continue to use the average “everyday” models which represent the typical asda shopper.

Every Celebrity i see endorsing a product i always think how much cheapeer would my shopping be if they didnt hire that twerp and if you get the wrong person you might even loose customers

Unfortunately celebrity does seem to work in advertising. I would prefer to see people judging things on their own merits rather than buying them because somebody they know has been paid to say they are good.
It would have no difference either way on how I shop personally.

Asda need to do something about their image. The brand is aligned at the lower end of the market, when essentially is does everything that Tesco, Sainsbury’s or Morrison’s do, often at a more economical price. Their products of the other supermarkets are in no way superior to any of Asda’s offerings.
Tesco seem to have got their image correct, as they appeal to a broad section of society. The green simple has to go; there is no sense of sophistication about their branding.
Having celebrity endorsements/participation in ads may work, but it does not tackle the fundamental problem. Everyone views them a low cost supermarket, it also must be reiterated that this does not come at a compromise to quality.

None of the supermarkets should be paying big money to have celebities advertise their goods. Its a waste of money. The money they are paying would much be better into getting their prices down and keeping their stores in order. If they need to advertise, they should be using their own staff.
Just because someone famous I liked was advertising something, doesn’t mean I am going to rush out and buy it. There are better things for them to be spending their money on in this current climate.

With the way the economy is just now, everyday low prices speak loudly enough to the consumer. Do I want a “celeb” pretending that they are ordinary - don’t be so patronising. Save the money and pass it on to the customers.
