For the final rant of the year we asked for you to rant about us. This meant we wanted to find out what you thought about Urban Life and Metro. Unsurprisingly, you were all very honest and here are some of the responses we received. Let's start with a few positive quotes…
"I enjoy the surveys, they make me think about things I might not normally think about, and it's interesting to see the results pop up randomly in the paper. Metro is an easy read in the morning and is superior to the free evening papers, which seem to rely too much on reader-generated content, which is generally of a poor standard."
"Truly the best paper I have ever read. I hate newspapers that force their opinions on to you, and ones that report stories with their own agendas. Metro is refreshing because it just reports the news as it is, without any personal influences/agendas. It also has a really good mix of news stories, gossip, titbits of info and interesting facts as well as all the special features. It brightens up my day, and has greatly improved my opinion of journalists-my saviour! Thanks!"
"I love Metro and have since it 1st appeared in Edinburgh many years ago. If it wasn't for Metro, I wouldn't know what was going on in the world. It is the only paper I enjoy reading."
"I love the Metro! It's nice to read a mix of serious news & unusual stories from the UK and around the world. I enjoy reading the dailies too but your impartial style is by far the best - & for free as well!! Being able to get my views across in the Urban Life surveys was great as well."
However we can not please everyone…
"Look, I get commented regularly that I am quite a nice looking woman, but I am also very scatty and clumsy - so having the Metro ink all over my hands by the time I reach page 3 means it has turned, on more than one occasion, into a dark stripe on my face when I move my hair out of the way. Glad I have amused some commuters with this but now it's getting silly! Get ink that doesn't come off please!!!"
"The celebrity pages. I get really annoyed that it's all about the same people: bloody Britney, Amy & Pete Doherty. Isn't there anyone else to write about?."
"There is definitely not enough coverage of Women's football, it was the Women's World cup this year and all the England ladies got were a few tiny mentions of their matches, which they did brilliantly in... whereas the blokes England team cocking up yet again gets 3 pages of coverage. Help raise the profile of a national game which isn't spoilt by overpaid useless prima-donnas."
And a quote again. And one for the first time..!
"I've been completing Urban Life surveys since they started and have never won a bean - you even quoted a number of my previous rants in the survey summary, but yet no reward! The letters page should be bigger with more content - it's my favourite part of the paper!"
"Why are my responses to emailed comments not published on the internet???"
