Have Your Say

Madeleine McCann

Madeleine

As a case that still holds the headlines six months after her disappearance, we asked you how your views had changed since the naming of Kate & Gerry McCann as official suspects in their daughter's disappearance. 72% of you are either convinced of their innocence or remain undecided. Only 9% stated that the naming of the McCann's as suspects had changed your view on their involvement in Madeline's

Healthy Union

Strike

After a spate of strikes we asked you what you thought of Unions in general. 53% generally support Unions but think they are currently abusing their power. 2 in 10 support Unions and the work they do, whilst 14% believe they should be abolished altogether. Meanwhile in healthcare, 52% of you are satisfied that the NHS is providing high standards of free healthcare for all. Of these over half of you are confident that the ruling government has the ability to improve the NHS in the future, this compares to only 34% of all Urbanites who feel otherwise.

60% of you thought that the compensation of £152,510 to Lance Bombardier Ben Parkinson was too little for injuries sustained in battle.

I'm a celebrity….get me a baby!

Sweet little thing

Only 8% of you see the recent spate of celebrity adoptions of children from around the world as a humanitarian act, with 2 in 10 seeing it as a publicity stunt. The majority of you think it to be a mixture of both humanitarian acts and publicity.

I'm a celebrity….checking out

Nothing left

'…all these celebrities that have so much, and yet aren't satisfied...they have to ruin their lives, it's unacceptable behaviour - why does society condone it?'

'Celebrities are just people - with all the same human frailties as us 'nobodies'. Ripping them apart in the press when they are in meltdown just makes me feel extremely sad.'

'Does it really matter? They're human like the rest of us, except they've become famous and we happen to be obsessed with celebrities. Let's stop gossiping and do something productive to address the issues instead!'

Death warmed up 'Don't care - they should get over it and appreciate how lucky they are!! They made the decision to be in the spotlight - live with it and set a good example to others!!'

'Don't really care to be honest - it's not exactly newsworthy and is it any wonder that kids are going off the rails if we publicise this type of behaviour and glamorise it? It's not exactly responsible news reporting by the media. It's about time they take some responsibility for the mess the country is in at the moment.'

'Don't think it's right to speculate and I think these people need privacy and help, rather than paparazzi and tabloids jumping on them at every opportunity.'

What have you done? 'I couldn't care less. If these people weren't famous they would all be in prison by now. Being a celebrity seems to give judges the right to let them off the hook again and again. I think a stint in jail would quickly straighten them out.'

'The last straw, I believe (until the press manages to come up with something even more horrid and outrageous - and that day won't be far), is various "Celeb Spotting" columns appearing in the gutter press. "I saw so-and-so sipping mint-flavoured moccacchino in Starbucks, while wearing a deerstalker hat!" So f***ing what?! I mean, seriously. Don't you agree it is even beyond over-the-top?'

'Hopefully no one, it is awful going through mental illness whether it be depression, an eating disorder, drug/alcohol abuse or anything else. I can't imagine how much worse it is made by being in the public eye and splashed on the front of every newspaper. I find it heartbreaking, and for those of them who take the route to recovery I wish them every success.'
