This Wave we asked your opinion on a range of issues, from the World Cup performance to flags to Live 8….
Don’t mention the World Cup!
Almost a third of you thought that the losing match against Portugal was a ‘flaming disgrace’, almost 20% found the match gripping, whilst over a quarter felt that it was well played but penalties were always going to be England’s downfall. Meanwhile, 2 in 10 of you were just thankful the whole thing was over and done with.
On David’s resignation as England Captain, some 23% looked upon it as a shame (note 32% of you women were more sympathetic on this compared to 17% of men – wonder why?!?). A down to earth 30% of you just really couldn’t care less, whilst 28% thought that this move marked the end of his career in the international arena.
St George’s flag pole
China has no doubt doubled it's GDP on the back of them, bin men are still clearing them up – and you Urbanites weren’t too impressed with them either. Almost a quarter of you found people who drape St George’s flags everywhere a tad on the sad side, whilst almost 50% found it a mixture of sad and amusing. Despite the slight lack of patriotism on this one, however, some 84% of you branded councils and organisations that ban the sight of England flags as ‘PC gone mad’.Toughen’ up Britain
A total of 89% of you think that there should be a tougher policy and enforcement on prison sentences, of this 41% of you think that this should only be the case for certain crimes. Some 94% of Urbanites are concerned with the short parole times of criminals issued with a life sentence, whilst 42% of you think a life sentence should quite literally mean ‘life’.
Not so warm for your form…
Over 2 in 10 of you are staggered that John Prescott remains in Office as Deputy Prime Minister given his rather public scandals, whilst 54% of you are not surprised ‘given the current government’. Live 8
One year on, some of you are slightly sceptical about the achievements of Live 8, with around 40% of you stating that for you personally Live 8 didn’t achieve that much and you haven’t really thought about it all. However, for a quarter of you, Live 8 had made you much more conscious of the plight in African countries today.
