Newspapers and Politics

We wanted to know to which, if any, of the main 3 political parties in the UK you thought each major national newspaper lent its support. The results can be seen here.

The national newspapers perceived to be the most left-wing, pro-Labour were The Mirror (52%), The Sun (41%) and The Guardian (33%). The papers perceived to be the most right-wing, pro-Conservative were the Daily Mail (57%), the Telegraph (49%) and The Times (43%).

Two national newspapers were perceived to be the most neutral and unbiased - 29% thought the Independent was, er, politically "independent" and 49% thought Metro was unbiased. However, with all these figures there was a large number of you who didn't know which political party a particular newspaper favoured.

Saturday Newspapers

In total, 46% of you usually read a newspaper on a Saturday. This figure is equal for men and women, and is not that different for the 18-24 age group - 44%.

93% of Saturday newspaper readership takes place at home, with 9% taking place in a café. In terms of when Saturday newspapers are read: 37% said mostly in the morning, 29% said mostly in the afternoon/at lunchtime, and 20% said you read it in bits across the day.

61% of Saturday readers get your copy from a high street newsagent/corner-shop, 26% get it from a supermarket, 7% from a kiosk/newsagent in a train/tube station, 7% from a petrol station, and 7% have it delivered to your home. 10% said someone else gets the newspaper on Saturday, and you read this copy (24% of the 18-24 age group).
